Nathaniel Moore scored 13 points, but Minot State had its seven-game winning streak halted by No. 13 Northern State as the Beavers dropped a 75-56 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest to the Wolves on Saturday in Wachs Arena.

Minot State, which dropped to 14-2 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC, had shot better than 50 percent from the floor in six straight games, but was held to 39.6 percent shooting by Northern State. The Wolves, who lead the NSIC in scoring defense, also held Minot State to its lowest scoring output of the season.

Northern State, which improved to 16-1 overall and 10-0 in conference, shot 57.1 percent from the floor and was led by Ian Smith who scored 17 points. DJ Pollard added 16 points and Gabe King finished with 15 points for the Wolves.

Moore was 4-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to pace the Beavers. He also added a team-high five rebounds and added a steal.

Tyler Rudolph and
Luis Ricci Maia each finished with 10 points for the Beavers.

Northern State, which never trailed in the game, raced out to an early 11-2 lead behind a pair of three-pointers from King.

Minot State got to within 13-7 on a three-pointer by Rudolph with 14:11 to play in the opening half, but that would be as close as the Beavers would get for the remainder of the contest.

The Wolves responded with an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 24-7 with 11:55 to play before halftime and would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

Minot State trimmed the lead to 34-24 on a layup by Rudolph with 3:55 to play in the first period, but the Wolves closed the half with an 11-2 run to take a 45-26 lead into halftime.

Northern State held as much as a 24-point lead in the second half.

Minot State returns to action on Friday (Jan. 12) when it hosts Minnesota State at 8 p.m. in the Minot State Dome. The Beavers will then host Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday (Jan. 13) at 6 p.m. in the MSU Dome.
