SAN JUAN, P.R. -- Sophomore Max Cody hit a three-pointer with 58.6 seconds to play in overtime helping lift Minot State to a 73-72 victory over Pontifical Catholic in the Beavers opening game of the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Minot State shot 64.0 percent from the floor in the first half and stormed out to a 44-23 lead at halftime
• Pontifical Catholic shot 54.2 percent from the floor in the second half and held the Beavers to just 19 points to force overtime
• With the Beavers clinging to a one-point lead, Max Cody drilled a three-pointer with 58.6 seconds remaining in overtime to hold off Pontifical Catholic

BEAVER TRACKS

• Max Cody was 8-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the three-point line to finish with a career-high 22 points
• David Akibo recorded his first double-double of the season as he had 15 points and 10 rebounds
• Kyle Beisch also reached double figures in scoring for Minot State as he had 14 points
• Kyle Beisch added six rebounds, five assists and a steal for the Beavers
• Dorian Aluyi had eight points, six rebounds and three steals
• Drake Jeffries scored six points and grabbed two rebounds

TEAM NOTES

• Minot State improved to 4-2 on the season with the win
• Minot State shot 53.8 percent from the floor
