ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minot State women's basketball team suffered a 70-61 setback at St. Cloud State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.
The loss drops Minot State to 13-11 (10-10 NSIC) while St. Cloud State improves to 17-7 (14-6 NSIC).
Kari Clements knocked down a three-pointer to give Minot State their largest lead of the game at 7-3 before St. Cloud State went on a 14-7 run to take a 17-14 lead after the first quarter.
The Huskies carried the momentum into the second quarter, as the Huskies outscored Minot State 20-8 to take a 37-22 lead at halftime.
Trailing by 21 with eight minutes left in the third quarter, the Beavers ended the quarter on a 17-7 run to trim the SCSU lead down to 50-39 going into the final quarter.
Holly Johnson connected on a jumper with 2:18 left to cut the SCSU lead to 59-56. That was as close as the Beavers would get, as the Huskies ended the game on an 11-5 rally to clinch a 70-61 victory over Minot State.
Minot State shot 44 percent from the floor and assisted on 12 of 22 field goals while holding St. Cloud State to 38.6 percent shooting from the field.
Johnson paced Minot State on offense while scoring a game-high 23 points on 10 of 14 shooting.
Clements scored 16 points while shooting a perfect four of four from the field and six of six from the charity stripe.
Kristal Flowers grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while scoring four points and recording two steals.
Minot State returns to action next weekend, as the Beavers wrap up the regular season with a pair of games in the Minot State Dome. Minot State hosts Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. and Bemidji State on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m.
