Hackman’s Complete-Game Shutout Leads Beavers in Split vs. USF

MINOT, N.D. – Andres Hackman struck out seven batters while tossing a complete-game shutout in a 3-0 victory over Sioux Falls in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars answered with a 4-2 win in the second game.

The Beavers are 21-12 overall and 19-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play while USF is 12-22 (12-12 NSIC).

Game One

Wyatt Schlosser reached base in the second inning with his NSIC-leading 16th double of the season before scoring the game's first run on an infield single by Dustin Wilcox.

Geordie McDougall followed with a second consecutive single for the Beavers, scoring Justin Demary.

Wilcox scored Minot State's final run of the game on a Kyle Williamson single through the right side.

Minot State scored three runs on six hits while committing one defensive error.

Celestino Rodriguez led the Beavers with two hits while Schlosser, Wilcox, McDougall and Williamson recorded one hit apiece.

Hackman improved to 4-4 on the season while allowing seven hits and a walk after striking out seven batters in the complete-game shutout.

Game Two

Minot State carried the momentum from the first game into the second game, as the Beavers scored two runs on four hits in the top of the first inning.

Trevaun Smith and Michael Borst led off the game with back-to-back singles before Rodriguez singled through left side to score Smith. Borst scored the second run on a sacrifice fly from Schlosser.

Sioux Falls cut into the Minot State lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double down the left field line.

The Beavers and Cougars combined for three consecutive scoreless innings before Sioux Falls took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning off an RBI triple and an RBI double.

USF added an insurance run in the sixth inning to clinch the doubleheader split with Minot State.

Minot State scored two runs on 10 hits while the Cougars scored four runs on eight hits.

Borst and Demary led Minot State with two hits apiece while six other Beavers recorded a hit.

Zach Newman fell to 0-2 on the season after allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out five batters in five innings of work.

Brock Breshears pitched one inning of hitless relief while Aaron Bernal pitched the final two innings without giving up a hit.
