MANKATO, Minn. -- Freshman Mackenzie Long made eight saves in goal, but Julia Zach had a goal and two assists leading Minnesota State to a 5-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over Minot State on Sunday at The Pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Morgan Cottew got the Mavericks on the board at the 9:16 mark of the first when she converted a penalty kick
• Maddy Burandt upped the Minnesota State lead to 2-0 at the 11:46 mark of the first with a goal
• Dakota Wendell scored her fifth goal of the season at the 54:07 mark to increase the lead to 3-0
• Danielle Tazic scored at 87:58 to push the margin to 4-0
• Julia Zach capped the scoring with a goal at 89:39

• Mackenzie Long played 71:48 minutes in goal and made eight saves
• Haley Berryman led the Beavers with four shots and two shots on goal
• Ashley Hunter and Andrea Franco each had a shot on goal
• Melanie van Walstijn also had a shot for Minot State

TEAM NOTES

• Minot State dropped to 5-3-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the NSIC
• It marked the first time the Beavers have allowed five goals since 2013
• Minnesota State held a 31-7 advantage in shots
