(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State soccer team celebrated their second win of the weekend with a 3-2 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University on Senior Day.
The Beavers started the scoring with a
Sofia Lewis goal (21') that was assisted by
Melanie van Walstijn. After the break, the Mustangs briefly captured the lead with goals by Alli Miskowiec (48') and Olivia Harriger (49'). Miskowiec's score was assisted by Abbey Hoisington and Harriger put a penalty kick past the keeper.
Lewis then struck with an equalizer in the 54
th-minute to make the score 2-2. Finally,
Anabel Noches put home her second goal of the season (70') on a corner kick from Lewis.
Lewis led the Beaver offense with six total shots and three on goal.
Kelsey Pena,
Jasmine Basuil, and
Melanie van Walstijn all took two shots each.
For the Mustangs, Miskowiec was the most aggressive player with five total shots to her credit and one on goal. Freshman forward Alex Lotts recorded two shots of her own.
The Minot State team outshot SMSU's squad 14-12.
In goal, Beavers' senior
Erin Rafferty made one save while allowing both goals and earning the victory. Mustang GK Amanda Haimes saved three shots.
With the win, Minot State's record improved to 3-9-0 overall and 3-6-0 in NSIC play. The Mustang's overall record now sits at even .500 at 6-6-0 and 4-6-0 in league action.
The Beavers will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Upper Iowa University on Friday, Oct. 25 and to Winona State University on Sunday, Oct. 27.
