Beaver Football Battles Augustana to Reach .500 Mark

(MINOT, N.D.) -- Minot State University football is traveling to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take on the Augustana Vikings Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
  
The Beavers look to improve to .500 for the first time this season.

vs. Augustana University 
  • In its brief history, the Vikings lead the series 2-1.
  • The Beavers were victorious in the first matchup, 23-17, in 2013.
  • Augustana has won the ensuing two matchups in 2015 and 2017.
 
Beaver Tracks
  • Ben Bolinske had a breakout game, leading the Beavers to a 38-31 victory over Concordia- St. Paul, accounting for 335 yards of total offense and four total touchdowns.
  • After a big week offensively last week, the Beavers points per game went up about three points per game to 19.0.
  • Minot State's offense is fourth in the NSIC in rushing yards with 172 per game. 
  • With his 99 rushing yards last week, freshman running back Ali Mohamed leads Minot State in rushing yards and is fifth in the conference in total yards and seventh in yards per game with 534 rushing yards and a per-game average of 76.3.
  • Lavante Bushnell is the go-to receiver for the Beavers with 414 yards, which is good for 11th best in the conference.
  • Freshman returner Cory Carignan is a dangerous threat in the return game with 422 kick return yards. He has also added a score.
  • Senior kicker/punter JoseLuis Moreno is 14th in the nation and fifth in the NSIC in punting yards (1,645). He is 12th in the country in punting average (42.2). Moreno has recorded 11 punts inside the 20, and 13 50+ yard punts. He is also 7-10 on field goal attempts.
  • Isaiah Bigby has been a leader on the defense with 47 tackles on the season, which places him in a tie for 11th in the conference. In addition, he is tied with Justin Coleman and Knylen Miller-Levi for the team lead in interceptions with two.
  • Tamrick Ross is leading the team in tackles for loss with 4.5 and also has 2.5 sacks.
  • The Beaver defense has also picked off seven passes this season.
  • As a team, Minot State is one of the more disciplined teams in the conference, with only 32 penalties on the season (best in the NSIC).

Augustana University 
  • The Vikings are currently 5-2 on the season.
  • Augustana is coming off of a game last week in which they were victorious over MSU Moorhead 48-3.
  • The Vikings have the fourth-best scoring offense in the conference, averaging 27 points per game.
  • Their defense has been the key in their 5-2 start as they have given up just nine touchdowns to opponents thus far this season.
  • The defense also is fourth-best in the conference in yards given up per game (289.3).
  • On offense, they do a majority of their damage through the passing attack, with quarterback Kyle Saddler throwing for the second most yardage in the conference (1404).
