(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State Beaver soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss today to the Huskies of St. Cloud State University.
The Beaver offense struggled on a snowy afternoon at The Herb. Minot State only recorded three total shots with one on goal. Juniors
Sofia Lewis and
Melanie van Walstijn were the only Minot players to fire shots towards the goal with two for Lewis and one for van Walstijn. Van Walstijn's attempt was the only shot on target for MSU.
On the other side, St. Cloud State's offense had a productive day. In total, the Huskies attempted 24 shots with 14 on goal. Jenna Dominguez led the attack with seven shots. Claire Shea and reserve Hannah Marion were next with four each. Five other Huskies took a shot.
Both of St. Cloud State's goals were scored by Shea in the 10
th-minute and 19
th-minute. Monica Majeski assisted on the first of the two scores.
In goal, Minot State played a tandem of keepers that had a solid day. Senior
Erin Rafferty started her final game at Herb Parker Stadium and allowed the two goals but saved six shots.
Mackenzie Long relieved Rafferty to start the second half and also made six saves.
Huskies' GK Zoe Welsh benefitted from the limited Minot State offense and recorded a shutout victory while only saving one shot.
Following the loss, the Beavers' record fell to 3-12-0 overall and 3-9-0 in NSIC play. St. Cloud State improved their conference standing with the victory and now sit at 8-4-3 overall and 7-3-2 in league play.
The remainder of Minot State's contests will be on the road to end the 2019 campaign. The next match for the Beavers will be this Sunday, Nov. 3 at Minnesota-Duluth.
