Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beaver Soccer Outlasted by UMD

(DULUTH, MINN.) – The Minot State soccer team was beaten 1-0 at Minnesota-Duluth earlier today.

The Bulldogs and Beavers battled through a scoreless first half and the only score of the game wasn't made until midway through the second period.

UMD's Sarah Stange was the only player for either squad to score in today's game when she placed her first goal of the season past the keeper in the 63rd-minute. Tiana Degrande and Nan Glinsek assisted on the play.

Despite the low-scoring nature of the game, the Bulldog offense dominated Minot State in the shots category with 21 attempts compared to the Beavers' nine. Only three Beaver players recorded a shot with Melanie van Walstijn (5), Daniela Fonseca (2), and Sofia Lewis (2) leading the way.

In goal, both keepers had impressive outings. For UMD, Sophia Grenz recorded the shutout victory and saved seven shots. Minot State senior GK Erin Rafferty allowed the lone goal but also made 11 saves on the afternoon.

With the loss, Minot State's record has fallen to 3-13-0 overall and 3-10-0 in NSIC competition. UMD improved their overall mark to 6-9-2 and their league record to 4-8-2.

The Beavers will be back on the pitch this Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Minnesota-Crookston in a match that was rescheduled from earlier this season.
