(MARSHALL, MINN.) – The Minot State volleyball team was defeated in their 2019 season finale at Southwest Minnesota State in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-12.
The Mustangs benefitted from an overwhelming performance on both sides of the net.
For SMSU, Sarina Smith led in kills with 13 followed by Angela Young and Zoe Lier with 10. Emma Thompson was tops on the team in assists with 23. Two Mustangs recorded double-digit digs as Payton Hjerleid had 19 and Sydney Omtvedt had 11. Smith led the defense at the net with four blocks.
Minot State couldn't quite find a rhythm and were out-paced in nearly every statistical category. Senior
Shelby Spuller again led the Beavers in kills with eight in her final game at Minot State. Setter
Mackenzie Froehlich recorded 18 assists to lead MSU. Libero
Karli Koza made 21 digs to lead the way for Minot State followed by DS
Quinn Billaney with six. Another senior,
Emily Falldorf, had a team-high four total blocks.
The Beavers finish 2019 with records of 3-26 overall and 2-18 in league competition. Southwest Minnesota State finished up their regular season at 18-10 overall and 12-8 in the NSIC.
