(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State women's basketball team won their third consecutive game tonight in the MSU Dome. The Beavers overcame another sloppy start to pull away in the second half and defeat the visiting Vikings of Valley City State University by a score of 70-57.
Both teams started slowly as only twenty first-half points were scored between the two sides. Ball security was also an issue for the Beavers and Vikings as there were 31 combined turnovers in the first half. Valley City finished the game with 31 turnovers of their own and Minot State had a total of 17 after both halves.
Individually, the Beavers were led in scoring by
Mariah Payne with 20 points on 42% shooting. Forwards
Anna Counts and
Reina Strand also struck double-digits with ten points each. The Beavers lost the rebounding battle to VCSU 31-41 but
Calli Delsman led MSU with eight boards. Delsman also facilitated the Beaver offense well against a lot of zone defense with nine assists.
The Vikings were led by Alexis Bentz and Mackenzie Huber with 15 points and 12 points, respectively. Huber also led the way for Valley City with seven rebounds.
The Minot State women will be back on the court this weekend when they host UMary in the NSIC opener on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3:30 p.m. The Beavers will enter league play with an overall record of 3-1.
