Beavers Football Unsuccessful in Quest for Fourth Win

(St. Cloud, Minn.) – Today, the Beaver Football team battled with the Huskies of St. Cloud State University and were unable to reach their quest for a program record by getting their fourth win. The Beavers were able to start the game well, scoring first and leading 10-7 but would be outscored 24-9 the remainder of the game to fall to 3-7 after the 31-19 loss.
 
In the first quarter, the Beavers drove the ball 69 yards on seven plays to take a 7-0 lead after the Ali Mohamed two-yard touchdown rush, and point after was converted by JoseLuis Moreno. The Huskies would answer back with a touchdown of their own late in the first quarter to tie the game up at seven. Midway through the second quarter, the Beavers would take over inside the Huskies 25-yard line after Minot State recovered the Huskies fumble. The Beavers would add three on the possession to take the 10-7 lead. St. Cloud State would score ten points to close out the first half with a 17-10 lead.
 
The Beavers would start the scoring in the second half, as well. They drove 28-yards on eight plays, leading to a 37-yard field goal from Moreno to cut the Husky lead to 17-13 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, St. Cloud State would score two touchdowns to take a 31-13 lead. The Beavers would not be done fighting, however, as they would score on a 39-yard touchdown pass from Sean Kuenzinger to Isaiah Hall after a big kick return by Lavante Bushnell.
 
Beaver Leaders: 
In his first career start, Sean Kuenzinger went 15-21 passing for 152 yards and a touchdown ∙ Lavante Bushnell caught five passes for 59 yards ∙ Ali Mohamed had two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing and also had 79 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches ∙ Geordie McDougall, making his first start of the season forced a fumble and led the defense with seven tackles ∙ Jackson Green forced a fumble ∙ JoseLuis Moreno punted the ball eight times for 340 yards, averaging 42.5 yards per punt ∙ Moreno had one 50+ yard punt and also made both of his field-goal attempts.

Game Notes:

The Beavers were outgained in offensive yards 377-156 ∙ St. Cloud State had seven sacks on the day ∙ The Beavers forced three turnovers, but turned it over four times themselves. Ali Mohamed is seven yards short of becoming the D2 era single-season leader in rushing yards.
