Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Beaver Women's Hoops Bested by St. Cloud State

(ST. CLOUD, MINN.) – The Minot State women's basketball team was defeated on the road this afternoon in their second NSIC game away from the MSU Dome.

The Beavers fell to St. Cloud State in St. Cloud by a score of 80-56. The loss puts the MSU women's cagers right at .500 with a 3-3 overall record and an 0-2 mark in league play.

Minot State scored 19 points in the first quarter, their most of any period, but could not maintain their offensive explosion throughout the remainder of the game. St. Cloud State took advantage in the second quarter and held the Beavers to only nine points in that period. SCSU's 43-point first half set the tone for the rest of the evening.

For the Beavers, Mariah Payne led the way offensively with a team-high 22 points and six rebounds. Calli Delsman was second in scoring with nine points. Both Payne and Delsman led the Beavers in assists with three each. Anna Counts continued her solid play at the rim with a second-best four boards and two blocks. As a team, Minot State struggled from behind the three-point arc going 1-for-12 from distance.

St. Cloud State's balanced attack was too much for Minot State. Brehna Evans led the Huskies in scoring with 14 points. She was followed by three others in double-figures as Madelin Dammann scored 13 and both Nikki Kilboten and Katrina Theis netted 12 each. Kilboten led the way on the glass with nine rebounds followed by Caitlyn Peterson with seven. Evans also recorded a game-high six assists and three steals.

The Beavers will be off for a week until their next pair of games. Northern State will visit MSU on Friday, Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and MSU Moorhead will be in Minot on Saturday, Dec. 14 for the Beavers' next two NSIC contests.
