Women's Hockey Goes Into Break with Pair of Victories

(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State women's hockey team ended their semester on a good note.

The Beavers were able to knock off #11 Colorado in a pair of contests at Maysa Arena.

Game 1:
On Friday night, the Beavers went down early in the first period, with Colorado scoring the only goal of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.

Minot State would not be down for long, however, as they would take a commanding lead in the second period. The Beavers would score three times in the second period. The first goal came from Mackenzie Balogh. Sami Jo Henry and Bryanna Bergeron assisted the goal. Maiya Aschberg would score under two minutes later to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead. Cassidy Entz and Brooke Mead were credited with the assists. The Beavers would continue to strike, with Balogh scoring her second of the period with 12 seconds to go in the second. Entz and Bergeron would record their second assists of the game.

Colorado would shrink the deficit in the third period with a goal at 9:16. It would not help them in the end, as the Beavers would score one more time to seal the game. Ensley Fendelet scored at the 15:46 mark on the third assist of the night by Aschberg. That goal would seal the game and give the Beavers a 4-2 victory.

Game 2:
Saturday night's game had everything a fan could be looking for unless, of course, you are a fan of defense. The game was a barn burner that included lots of scoring and a come from behind victory in overtime. There was a total of 11 goals, 12 assists, and 23 points in the contest. Minot State goalie Jordan Ivanco and the Minot State defense were not in the best form in the first period. The Beavers allowed four goals in the first period, with three of them coming against Ivanco on six shots before being pulled. Minot State scored first in the period, scoring at the 2:10 mark on a goal by Clyne was assisted by Henry and Clarissa Lewis. However, the Beavers would give up goals at 4:06, 5:21, 5:53, and 18:22 marks.

The second period would be a much stronger one from the Beavers, coming back from a three-goal deficit to scoring four times and taking a 5-4 lead into the third period. Clyne scored her second of the game, and Entz scored her first. Story Navrot hit the back of the net twice in the period. Entz, Navrot, Bergeron, and Henry were each credited with an assist in the period.

The third period was relatively quiet, but Maya Nefs was able to score the game-tying goal at the 2:26 mark. The 5-5 score would hold throughout the period.

In overtime, Haley Wickham netted the game-winning goal for the Beavers on.an assist by Balogh.

The Beavers now go into the break having won nine straight games and do not play again until January 18th when they go on the road to face Adrian College.
