Beavers Top Vikings in Conference Matchup

MINOT, N.D.Max Cody knocked down 18 points and four Minot State players in double figures led the Beavers to a win against Augustana University 66-64 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball Friday at the Minot State Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Minot State's Drake Jeffries hit a 15-footer just inside the shot clock to give the Beavers a 66-62 lead with seven seconds to play.
  • The Beavers took a 30-28 lead at halftime, limiting Augustana University to just 12 first-half baskets.
  • The teams traded baskets throughout the second half, ending with a 36-36 tie.
  • The game featured seven ties and two lead changes.

BEAVER TRACKS

  • Max Cody hit two 3-pointers and 7 of 11 from the floor overall to score 18 points and dished out a game-high five assists.
  • Drake Jeffries knocked down 10 points, with two 3-pointers early in the game and a huge two-hand dunk in the second half to go along with seven rebounds.
  • David Akibo notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, also adding three assists.
  • Kody Dwyer finished with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor off the bench.

TEAM NOTES

  • Minot State held Augustana University to just 39.7 percent from the field in the game, limiting the Vikings to 35.3 percent in the first half.
  • The Beavers turned the ball over just five times in the game.
  • MSU went 9 for 12 from the line, outscoring AU 9-7 on free throws as just 18 total fouls were called between the two teams.
  • Minot State has now won two straight in league play and three of its last four to improve to 10-14 overall and 5-10 in the NSIC. The Vikings fell to 13-8 and 9-6 with the loss.
