Strong Pitching Pushes Beavers to Sunday Split

MINOT, N.D. – Freshman Zoya Robbins tossed a three-hit complete-game shutout to lead Minot State to a 2-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Sunday afternoon in the Air-Supported Dome.
 
The Beavers suffered a 10-6 loss in the second game of the afternoon to Valley City State and are 6-5 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Robbins opened the second inning with a walk before Jamie Odlum singled through the left side and Randi Wright lifted a sac fly to left field, scoring Robbins and giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
  • The Beavers tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Julia Suchan singled and came around to score on an RBI single from Maggie Mercer.
 
Beaver Bits
  • Mercer led Minot State with two hits while Robbins, Suchan and Odlum recorded one hit apiece.
  • Robbins improved to 2-1 on the season and struck out five Golden Eagles in the complete-game shutout.

How It Happened
  • The Vikings capitalized on a pair of Minot State errors in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
  • VCSU's offense came alive in fourth inning, scoring three runs and stretching the advantage to 5-0.
  • After being held scoreless in the fifth inning, the Vikings added two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh inning.
  • Coughlin broke open the scoring for the Beavers, ripping a three-RBI triple in left-center gap.
  • Robbins followed with an RBI single and Suchan blasted a two-run double to cut the deficit to 10-6.
