TUCSON, Ariz. – Faced with a three-run deficit, the Minot State baseball team plated five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to score in double-figures for the fourth consecutive game in Minot State's 17-10 victory over Valley City State on Wednesday evening.
Minot State improves to 5-6 on the season while Valley City State drops to 3-9.
How It Happened
- Trevaun Smith led off the game with a solo home run and Michael Borst scored on a sacrifice fly by Wyatt Schlosser as the Beavers jumped on the Vikings early to take a 2-0 lead.
- VCSU responded with two runs in the bottom of the half inning to tie the game back up at two.
- Jake Collins hit a bases-loaded RBI single to score Celestino Rodriguez and Geordie McDougall lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Mason Gifford as the Beavers put up a pair of runs for the second time in the first three innings.
- Gifford led off the fifth inning with a single before touching home on an RBI single from Collins.
- Darrel Doll smacked a two-run homer after Smith began the sixth inning with a walk.
- The Vikings hung a major crooked number in the sixth, tacking on eight runs on five hits and a Minot State error to take a 10-7 lead.
- Ryley Humrighouse and Smith hit RBI singles before Borst added a two-RBI double as the Beavers took back the lead in the seventh inning.
- Minot State drew a pair of bases-loaded walks while Borst smacked a two-RBI single and Gifford added an RBI single to clinch the 17-10 victory.
