MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State softball team erupted for 12 runs on 15 hits to post a 12-0 shutout victory in five innings over Mary to complete the split on opening day of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Tuesday. The Marauders took the opening game with an 11-5 victorious decision over the Beavers.
Minot State is now 12-7 overall on the season and 1-1 in NSIC play while the Marauders are 10-12 (1-1 NSIC).
Game One: UMary 11, Minot State 5
How It Happened
- Lauren Cowden reached on an infield single before scoring the game's first run on a fielder's choice by Karlee Coughlin to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the opening inning.
- The Marauders responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a two-run lead.
- Kiera Shwaluk and Maggie Mercer opened the third inning with back-to-back singles before coming home on a two-RBI single by Cowden.
- The Beavers added a third run in the third inning when Randi Wright single to shortstop, scoring Cowden and giving Minot State a 4-3 lead.
- Minot State doubled its lead when Cowden led off the fifth inning with a triple before scoring on an RBI groundout by Alina Gonzalez.
- UMary answered in the next half inning with a run themselves to make it a 5-4 game after five innings.
- The Marauders piled on seven runs on five hits and capitalized on a Minot State error in the bottom of the sixth to take a strong 11-5 lead into the final inning.

How It Happened
- Mercer smacked an RBI single up the middle and Coughlin ripped a two-RBI double to right center, leading the Beavers to a three-run lead after the first inning.
- Jamie Odlum hit an RBI single to right field before Coughlin added a two-RBI single to left field as Minot State tacked on a pair of more runs to plate five runs on seven hits and a Marauder error in the second inning.
- The Beaver offense continued its momentum in third inning when RBI hits from Coughlin, Suchan, Randi Wright and Gonzalez added four runs to the Beaver lead.
- After tossing three scoreless innings, Robbins held the Marauders scoreless for an additional two innings to clinch the shutout victory.

What's Next
The Beavers host Concordia-St. Paul in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon before hosting Minnesota State in a doubleheader at noon on Sunday. A decision will be made tomorrow (Wednesday) on whether the games will be played at the South Hill Complex or in the Air-Supported Dome.
