Baseball Falls Twice on Tuesday

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Minot State held a lead in both games on Tuesday, but couldn't hold on as the Beavers were on the losing end of a doubleheader sweep at New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M.
 
The Beavers fell 5-2 in the first game before dropping a 9-3 contest in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
Game One: New Mexico Highlands 5, Minot State 2
 
How It Happened
  • Mason Gifford and Michael Borst reached base on back-to-back singles before scoring on a two-RBI double from Celestino Rodriguez to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
  • The Cowboys responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at two.
  • New Mexico Highlands took a two-run lead in the third inning before adding an insurance run in the fourth inning to secure the 5-2 victory.

  • Rodriguez led the Beavers at the plate with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Gifford, Borst, Wyatt Schlosser and Jake Collins also recorded a hit.
  • Starter Reilly O'Rourke lasted two innings while giving up four runs on one hit and four walks.

How It Happened
  • After two scoreless innings, Ryley Humrighouse opened the third inning with a double, followed by a single from Geordie McDougall.
  • Schlosser drew a walk to load the bases before Borst's sacrifice fly scored Humrighouse to break the scoreless tied.
  • The Beavers tacked on a pair of runs with Andrew Black's two-RBI single up the middle to stretch the lead to 3-0.
  • The Cowboys capitalized on two Minot State errors in the bottom of the third to score six unearned runs.
  • New Mexico Highlands scored one run apiece in the fourth, fifth and six inning to clinch the 9-3 win.

  • Black's two-RBI single led the Beavers at the plate.
  • Gifford, Humrighouse and McDougall notched one hit each.
