Black Belts Walk-Off Grand Slam in Dramatic Doubleheader

MINOT, N.D. – Andrew Black lifted the ball to left with the bases loaded, and the ball just kept carrying and carrying, as it snuck inside the foul pole for a walk-off grand slam to give Minot State a 6-3 victory in 10 innings over Wayne State College in game one of the doubleheader at Corbett Field.
 
The second game also went extra innings with WSC escaping with a 1-0 victory.

How It Happened
  • WSC opened the scoring with an RBI single in the third to take the 1-0 lead.
  • Minot State tied the game in the fourth when Black was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Celestino Rodriguez.
  • The Wildcats scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • Down to their final two outs, Darrel Doll launched a pinch-hit solo home run to right center, tying the game at two.
  • WSC grabbed a one-run lead on another sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning.
  • A pair of walks and a singled loaded the bases for Minot State before Black blasted the walk-off grand slam down the left field line to give the Beavers a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats.

  • Black led Minot State at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 with five RBI.
  • Jake Collins, Tyler Wiltshire and Doll recorded a hit for Minot State.
  • Starter RJ Martinez tossed 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out five Wildcats.
  • Jack Gamba improved to 2-2 on the season while tossing 2.2 innings in relief.

How It Happened
  • Pitching had the upper hand in the second game as starter Reilly O'Rourke struck out eight batters in the first five innings while holding WSC scoreless.
  • With runners on second and third, the Wildcats drew back-to-back walks to plate the winning run in the top of the eighth inning.
