Beaver Comeback Falls Short on Friday

MINOT, N.D. – Facing a four-run deficit, Minot State softball scratched across three runs, but couldn't get the tying run home as the Beavers suffered a doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon vs. Sioux Falls at South Hill Complex.
 
The Beavers fell 12-0 in five innings before enduring a 6-5 loss in the second game.

  • The Cougars scored three runs in the first and a run in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Sioux Falls poured on eight runs on five hits in the fifth inning to clinch the 12-0 victory in five innings.

How It Happened
  • Shwaluk began the game with a single and Maggie Mercer's RBI triple brought her home to give Minot State a 1-0 lead.
  • The Beavers doubled the lead in the first inning when Mercer touched home on a Cougar error.
  • USF grabbed the lead in the second with a five-run inning on six hits.
  • The Cougars scored a run in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-2.
  • Shwaluk launched a three-run home run to right, cutting the USF lead to one in the bottom of the seventh.
