MINOT, N.D. – It took all of three hours and 57 minutes, but the Minot State baseball survived a 15-12 slugfest against Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday to clinch the three-game series sweep over the Mustangs at Corbett Field.
The win pushes the win streak to eight and puts the Beavers at 26-12 overall and 19-6 in NSIC play.
How It Happened
- Ryley Humrighouse put the first pitch of the game over the fence in left to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
- SMSU responded with an RBI double in the bottom half of the first to tie the game at one.
- Andrew Black opened the second inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch before Wyatt Schlosser blasted a two-run homer to right.
- Minot State tacked on its fourth run of the inning on Mason Gifford's RBI single through the right side to score Tyler Wiltshire.
- The Mustangs scored a run in the third and added three in the fifth inning to tie the game at five.
- Humrighouse and Jackson Pokorney provided RBI singles in the top of the sixth to lead the Beavers to a 7-5 lead.
- Gifford scored in the seventh on a wild pitch before Black unleashed a two-run triple to left, scoring Dillon Buckmeier and Michael Borst.
- Schlosser ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to score Jake Collins and Black to plate Minot State's fourth and fifth runs in the inning.
- The Beavers scored their final run of the seventh when Borst was plunked with the bases loaded.
- Facing a 13-5 deficit, SMSU uncorked seven runs on four hits and a Minot State error in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 13-12 game.
- After a scoreless eighth inning, Borst added insurance runs in the ninth inning with a two-run home run to left.
- Jack Gamba retired the Mustangs in order in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the 15-12 victory.
