Smith's Walk-Off Blast Tames Bulldogs

MINOT, N.D. – Trevaun Smith blasted a three-run walk-off home run to center in the bottom of the ninth inning as Minot State baseball recorded a doubleheader sweep in NSIC action over Minnesota Duluth at Jack Hoeven Park.
 
The wins push the Beavers to 28-14 overall on the season and 21-8 in conference games.

How It Happened
  • UMD netted an early lead in the first with a two-run homer in the opening inning.
  • Trevaun Smith and Jackson Pokorney began the bottom of the first with singles before scoring on a two-RBI double down the right field line to tie the game at two.
  • Borst came around to score on an RBI single by Celestino Rodriguez to give the Beavers a 3-2 lead.
  • Geordie McDougall started the second inning with a single before scoring after Pokorney singled and advanced on a fielding error to double the Minot State lead to 4-2.
  • The Bulldogs plated their final run of the game on a wild pitch, trimming the Beaver lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning.
  • Following a double by Borst, Darrel Doll launched a two-run home run to right, handing the Beavers a 6-3 advantage in the fifth inning.
  • Tyler Wiltshire ripped an RBI triple before scoring on an UMD error and Pokorney registered an RBI single to tack on three runs for the Beavers in the sixth and clinch the 9-3 victory.

  • UMD tied the game in the third, but Borst's second sacrifice fly plated Wiltshire in the bottom of the third to give Minot State a 2-1 lead.
  • The Bulldogs grabbed a 3-2 lead with two runs in the fourth.
  • Rodriguez singled home Pokorney in the fifth inning to tie the game at three.
  • Minnesota Duluth scored two runs on three hits in the seventh to take a two-run lead.
  • Jake Collins drew a walk to begin the ninth, followed by Andrew Black's pinch-hit single to put two runners on with no outs.
  • Smith stepped to the plate and lifted the ball that just kept carrying and carrying over the fence in center to garner a 6-5 walk-off victory.
