ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Despite winning three elimination games and nearly overcoming a nine-run deficit today, Minot State's run in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Baseball Tournament fell short as top-seeded Augustana defeated the Beavers 13-8 on Sunday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.
Minot State ends the 2019 season with a school record 36 wins while posting a 36-18 record on the year.
How It Happened
- Augustana scored the first run of the game on a Beaver throwing error in the first inning.
- The Vikings stretched the lead to six with five runs on six hits in the third inning.
- Augie tacked on three more in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-0.
- Darrel Doll continued his hot streak in the NSIC Tournament with a two-RBI single to right center, scoring Trevaun Smith and Jackson Pokorney in the sixth.
- Wyatt Schlosser followed with an RBI single to center to plate Michael Borst.
- Andrew Black kept the momentum going with an infield single and advanced to second on an errant throw, scoring Doll and making it 9-4.
- The Beavers scored three more runs in the sixth on Gifford's RBI groundout, Ryley Humrighouse reaching on an error to score Black and Celestino Rodriguez racing home on a wild pitch.
- The Vikings answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to lead 10-7 after six innings.
- Borst led off the seventh with a solo home run to left center, bringing the game within two runs for the second time.
- Leading 10-8, Augustana added three insurance runs on a pair of home runs in the bottom of the eighth to clinch the 13-8 victory.
