Beaver Football Loses in Defensive Battle

(MINOT, N.D.) -- Minot State Football had their home opener on Saturday against Northern State University. In a tight game, that included a scoreless second half, the Beavers were not able to score in the closing seconds and lost 14-10.

In a game that saw the Beavers go in a 14-0 hole early, they were able to battle back with ten unanswered points late in the second quarter. Junior quarterback Ben Bolinske was key to the drive, completing four passes for 51 yards and scoring the touchdown when he scrambled for a six-yard touchdown.

On the ensuing drive, Justin Coleman intercepted a pass in Northern State territory at the 14-yard line. The Beavers were not able to get seven but did end the half with three more points after the 21-yard field goal JoseLuis Moreno to end the half with the Wolves leading 14-10.
That would be all of the scoring in this contest as the second half of the game would be a defensive battle with 11 punts, one turnover, and two turnovers on down between the two teams. The Beavers, however, did have a chance to pull it out on their last drive. It was going to be a long shot, starting at the Northern State 24-yard line but a last-second pass to the endzone fell incomplete moving the Beavers to 0-2 on the season.

GAME NOTES
