Minot State Women's Soccer Prepares for Big Home Weekend

(MINOT, N.D.) -- Coach Chris Clements and the Minot State soccer team (0-3-0) will look to get into the win column with two conference opportunities this weekend.

In their last game, the Beavers fell at home to Montana State University Billings 2-0. Minot State was led by a trio of veterans on offense. Daniela Fonseca, Melanie van Walstijn, and Sofia Lewis all recorded two shots and one on goal. Erin Rafferty made eight saves while allowing the two goals for the Yellowjackets.

First, the girls will host the Dragons of Minnesota State-Moorhead (2-0-1) on Friday, Sep. 20 at 7:00 PM in Herb Parker Stadium.
In the Dragons last contest, they defeated Michigan Tech 2-1 in non-conference play. On the season, Jensen Odegaard leads MSU-Moorhead in total points (5), shots-on-goal (2), total shots (2), and goals (2). Mckenzie Ickert, Jacie Osier, and Maren Soupir have also played a key role in the Dragons' success with one goal per player. In goal, senior Kennedy Rodgers and sophomore Kayleigh Sedlacek have split time so far this season. Both keepers have had remarkable starts to the 2019 campaign with a combined 27 saves and one goal allowed.

In the second matchup of the weekend, the Beavers will host the Northern State Wolves (2-1-0) on Sunday, Sep. 22 at noon. In their last time on the pitch, the Wolves were defeated 1-0 by the nationally-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. Northern State will play at UMary on Friday before traveling further north to take on the Beavers later in the weekend. Stephany Estrada commands the Northern State offensive attack with seven shots, two goals, and one assist on the season. Other goals have been scored by Gaby Roman and Alexis Roessler, both in game-winning fashion. Junior keeper Morgan Bury has also had a stellar season with only one goal allowed and 17 saves in three contests.
