Beaver Football Looks to Win Second Straight

(MINOT, N.D.) -- The Minot State University Football team hits the road again this weekend as they head to Crookston, Minn. to take on the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles. 

The Beavers hope to move to 2-2 on the season, and in NSIC play after picking up their first win of the season last week in the Battle of the Big Lake trophy game over the University of Mary.

  • Minot State has the advantage in a matchup that started back in 1934. 
  • The Beavers lead the matchup 7-5.
  • The Beavers have the longest win streak in the series, winning three straight from 2012-2014.
  • The most recent game between the two teams was won by Crookston who won in the 2018 matchup by a score of 29-21.

  • Senior Kicker/Punter JoseLuis Moreno is having a phenomenal season to close out his collegiate career as a Beaver. He has been named NSIC Player of the Week. He is currently fourth in the nation in punting average at 44.7 yards per punt. In addition to that, he has made 3 of 4 field goals on the season.
  • Freshman Ali Mohammed has been impressive to start the season, averaging 6.4 yards per rush, helping to key a rushing offense that is seventh in the NSIC, averaging 149 yards per game. He is also averaging 83 yards per game, the fifth-best mark in the conference. 
  • Special Teams has been a significant advantage for the Beavers through their first three games. In addition to Moreno, the Beavers average 23.7 yards per kick return, good for fourth in the NSIC. 
  • The offensive line for the Beavers has been a strength, allowing just one sack thus far in the 2019 campaign. 
  • Justin Coleman has an interception in each of the last two games for the Beavers.

   University of Minnesota Crookston
  • The Golden Eagles are struggling on both sides of the ball to start the season as they are second to last in the NSIC in both scoring offense and points allowed per game.
  • Despite how many points they allow, they are sitting in the middle of the pack at 10th in yards allowed per game, giving up 376.3 yards per game.
  • Their passing defense has been strong, giving up 189 yards per game, good for fifth-best in the NSIC
  • The Golden Eagles average 21.4 yards per kick return, the fifth-best mark in the conference.
