Men's Basketball Wins Second Straight

(BEMIDJI, Minn.) -- The Minot State University men's basketball team faced off with the Beavers of Bemidji State for the first Beaver battle of the season. The first one went the way of Minot State as they were able to emerge with their second straight win.
 
Minot State did not start the game off very well, being down 8-2, 12-4, and 15-6 early. Trevor Rothstein was able to give the offense a jump start, hitting two threes and scoring seven straight points to get MSU back into the game. A pair of layups by Sam Ohlrich and Kody Dwyer would tie the game up at 17. The two teams would trade baskets over the next several minutes, with Bemidji holding onto a small lead until Kyle Beisch made a three-pointer with 2:38 to play in the first gave Minot State the lead 31-30. In the last 2:38, Minot State 8-4 to take a 39-34 lead into halftime.
 
Early in the second half, Bemidji would score the first four points to cut the lead to one. MSU would bounce right back, expanding the lead to 44-39. With Minot State, leading 47-45 Max Cody would score four straight, leading a 7-0 run to give MSU their largest lead of the game at 54-45. With 4:21 to play and Minot State holding a 68-60 lead, Bemidji State would have one more run in them. BSU would score seven straight points to cut the MSU lead to 68-67. Minot State would ramp up defensively for the remainder of the game, not allowing Bemidji State to score again, outscoring them 6-0, to pick up the 74-67 win.
 
Minot State was balanced offensively, with four players scoring in double figures. Max Cody led the team with 19, and Trevor Rothstein followed him with 18, Kody Dwyer with 16, and Kyle Beisch with 11. Rothstein led the team in rebounds with seven. Minot State also had four others with six and one with five, contributing to the 40-22 rebounding edge in the contest. Beisch and Cody led with five assists apiece.
 
Minot State will be back on the hardwood tomorrow, taking on Minnesota Crookston and the NSIC leading scorer Harrison Cleary.
