Beaver Softball Falls in Both Games in First Day of Vegas Tournament

Las Vegas, NV – The Beavers fell in a pair of games on day one of the Desert Stinger tournament. 


Game One:

Senior Isis Cabral went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in a 9-3 loss to the Concordia (OR) Cavaliers on Friday.

Sophomore Zoya Robbins (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (0-1). At the plate, the Beavers were paced by Cabral, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.

Freshman Lenora Watson furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Robbins also chipped in for Minot State, going 1-for-3 with a double.


HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring in the first inning. Sophomore Jamie Odlum came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board. 

The Beavers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the second trailing 2-1. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Watson, which brought the score level at 2-2. 

Concordia (OR) broke that tie and took a 9-2 lead heading into the seventh when Minot State narrowed the gap to 9-3. The Beavers recorded a run on Cabral's one-out solo home run off senior Sally Bowles. The ballgame ended with that seventh-inning rally falling short. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

 » Minot State's highest-scoring inning was the seventh when it pushed one run across.

Game Two:


Junior Haley Hernandez put together a brilliant performance at the plate Friday, hitting two homers, but the Minot State Beavers fell to the Simon Fraser Clan 15-7.

Sophomore Zoya Robbins (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (0-2).

Hernandez led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Freshman Lauryn Deguzman compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs along with one walk. Senior Karlee Coughlin also helped out for Minot State, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Sophomore Jamie Odlum came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.

The Clan expanded their lead to 6-1 before the Beavers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the second. Minot State scored twice on back-to-back home runs from Deguzman and Hernandez, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Clan.

Simon Fraser expanded their lead to 11-3 before the Minot State offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 11-4 in the third. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Deguzman.

The Clan expanded their lead to 12-4 before the Minot State offense got back to work, digging into that lead in the fourth. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Coughlin, bringing the score to 12-5 in favor of Simon Fraser.
