Beaver Women's Basketball Falls to Augustana

(SIOUX FALLS, S.D.) – The Minot State women's basketball team battled through the entire game before faltering late in a 75-64 loss to Augustana.

The first quarter was evenly matched between the two squads despite the Beavers starting down 10-4. From there, the Beavers would cut the deficit to 13-9 before embarking on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter, leading 17-13.

Minot State would continue to play well early in the second quarter, stretching the lead to a game-high eight points 27-19. Augustana would bounce back, however, cutting the edge to two points before the Beavers would hit the last bucket of the first half to go into the locker room with a 33-29 lead.

In the third quarter, the offenses would be dominant. Augustana would start a barnburner of a third quarter, hitting a three-pointer, and it would be on from there. With the Beavers leading 41-35 and then Augustana would go on an 8-0 run to take a 43-41 lead. The two teams would continue to battle throughout the quarter, with Augustana leading 55-52 after three.

Anna Counts hit a shot to start the third quarter cutting the Augustana lead to one. A couple of possessions later, Bethany Theodore would pull the Beavers to within one possession again. From there, the two teams would continue to match each other, with Minot State trailing 65-61. Augustana would embark on a 7-0 run, taking a 72-61 lead. Minot State would not be able to get much closer, falling 75-64.

The Beavers had four players in double figures, with Calli Delsman, Anna Counts, Mariah Payne, and Bethany Theodore scoring 13, 12, 11, 10. The Beavers had three with seven or more rebounds with Mollie Wilson grabbing 11, Counts grabbing nine, and Delsman coming down with seven. Payne led the team with seven assists.
