(MINOT, N.D.) -- It was a closely contested game, but Minot State's one-run third inning proved to be the difference, as the Beavers emerged with a victory on Sunday, beating the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles 4-3.
Sophomore
Zoya Robbins (3-2) picked up the win in a relief effort for Minot State (4-4). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out seven.
Robbins led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and two RBIs. Senior
Karlee Coughlin provided a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore
Jamie Odlum also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Minot State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Freshman
Jazmin Karunungan came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Beavers then held the Golden Eagles scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run triple from Robbins, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Beavers. Minnesota-Crookston put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still held on for the 4-3 win.
