FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Beavers finished a successful swing through Colorado with their most dominating performance of the weekend Sunday morning.
Story Navrot had a hat trick for the Minot State women's hockey team and goalie
Morgan Baker became the third different Beaver netminder of the weekend to record a shutout as Minot State rolled to an 8-0 win at Colorado State.
"We really liked the growth that our team made this weekend capping it off with a dominant effort," Minot State assistant coach
Anthony Swearingen said. "Three road wins early in the season is something to be proud of and we plan to keep progressing every day."
Minot State boasts a perfect 5-0-0 overall record after the weekend sweep, and now prepares for its next challenge, hosting Lindenwood this coming Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17, at Maysa Arena, in a rivalry match-up feature two of last year's ACHA National semifinalists. The Lions ended up cutting Minot State's season short last spring one game shy of the ACHA Championship Game.
Sunday, though, the Beavers focus was squaring on business against the Rams as Minot State scored with 9 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first period, then never looked back.
Megan Ferg scored the opening goal, which proved to be the game winner, off assists from
Lauren Blight and
Makena Welby.
Navrot then netted her first of the game off assists by
Ensley Fendelet and
Megan Norris for a 2-0 Beavers lead after one period.
Minot State broke the game open early in the second period as
Paige Ackerman and Ferg scored 26 seconds apart, stretching the lead to 4-0. Welby assisted on Ackerman's goal, and
Mia Mckee and Welby set up Ferg's second of the day.
Navrot made it 5-0 late in the second off assists from Fendelet and Norris, then the Beavers got a goal each from
Riley Ball, Navrot, and
Aspen Cooper in the third period, capping the win.
Blight and
O'Malley Eslinger assisted on Ball's goal, Cooper and Fendelet set up Navrot's third of the game, and Norris had the assist on the final goal of the day.
In all, the Beavers scored eight goals off an unbelievable 100 shots as they held a 100-10 edge in shots against Colorado State. Baker made all 10 saves for her first collegiate shutout as she joined goaltending teammates
Jordan Ivanco and
Haylie Biever in recording shutouts during the weekend road trip for Minot State.
