MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team returns to the ice and is back on the road, playing a pair of games in Nebraska on Thursday and Friday.
The Beavers (5-0-0 overall) renew their rivalry with Midland on Thursday at 9:30 p.m., playing the Warriors (1-2-1 overall) for the third time already this season, this time on Midland's home ice. In the two earlier meetings Minot State skated away with a one-goal win each time, 2-1 and 3-2.
Minot State then takes on Adrian College (Mich.) in a neutral-ice game on Friday at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs (4-1-1) have played all their games this season back in Michigan and will be making their first trip out-of-state when they play the Beavers on Friday then the host Midland Warriors on Saturday.
Here is a look at this weekend's games:
OFFENSIVE ERUPTION FOR MINOT STATE: The Beavers found their offensive rhythm on the road in Colorado, scoring 16 goals in a three-game sweep as they beat the University of Colorado 3-0 and 5-0, then blanking Colorado State, 8-0.
While each of Minot State's trio of goalies –
Jordan Ivanco,
Haylie Biever, and
Morgan Baker – got a shutout on the road-trip, 12 different Beavers also scored at least one goal led by
Story Navrot who had a hat trick against Colorado State, and
Megan Ferg and
Megan Norris, who each scored twice.
Paige Ackerman,
Maiya Aschberg,
Riley Ball,
Aspen Cooper,
Ensley Fendelet,
Gillian Gervin,
Mia Mckee,
Alisha O'Hara, and
Haley Wickham also scored goals for the Beavers, who find themselves nearing the end of a 6-game road stretch. Minot State concludes that run at Concordia College (Minn.) on Friday, Oct. 29, before returning to the Maysa Arena ice to host the Cobbers on Saturday, Oct. 30.
SCOUTING MIDLAND: The Warriors are a very familiar foe as Minot State opened the 2021-22 season at home hosting Midland in a pair of games back on Oct. 1-2. Both games were decided by a single goal, and both proved to be see-saw battles.
Hannah Stone, who has played in net in all four games for Midland, made 58 saves in the two games against Minot State, while Allison Rakowski scored two of her teams' three goals on the weekend. Tanna Christensen had the other goal against the Beavers for Midland, which has not played since the weekend series in Minot.
Allison Conybear, Kamryn Hayhurst, and Madison Miller each have scored a goal for the Warriors, as did Rakowski, as Midland scored a 3-1 win and a 1-1 tie with Indiana Tech to open its season back in September.
SCOUTING ADRIAN: The Bulldogs come into the weekend after a fairly busy month of October, much like Minot State, having played five games and scoring some lopsided wins – 6-0 over Michigan and 10-1 over Michigan-Dearborn.
During the early going, a quartet of players have been offensive threats for Adrian with Bria Fewchuk, Gabrielle Jex, Huntyr Bosher, and Neleh Wood all scoring three goals each, so far. Nicole Thomas has a pair of goals, as well, while Halle Faulkner has a shutout in goal and Jordan Hunt has been equally stellar with a 96.2 percent save percentage.
