Beavers fall 3-1 to Mary after taking first set

MINOT, ND --The Minot State volleyball team took the first set, but couldn't hold on and lost 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 24-26, 21-25) to the Mary Marauders Thursday at home at MSU Dome.

The loss dropped Minot State's record to 1-19 overall and 1-13 in NSIC play.

The Beavers were led by a double-double from Alexandra Koontz, who registered 17 kills and 20 digs on the day. Roxy King also added 10 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Sophia Peterson chipped in for MISU with 14 digs to go with four blocks from Jenna Pahlen.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Beavers survived a back-and-forth first set to win 25-21 in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. Minot State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Minot State lost set two 25-19 to even the match 1-1. Minot State trailed by as many as six points as Mary grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Marauders took over the lead.

SET 3 | Minot State then dropped their second set in a row, falling behind in the match two sets to one. The Beavers fell in a close set, losing 26-24 in a stanza that was tied eight times and had four lead changes.

SET 4 | Minot State lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-21. Mary grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 and Minot State was never able to recover in a set that was tied up three times before the Marauders took over in the second half of the stanza.
