MINOT, N.D.- Minot State soccer (7-2, 6-0 NSIC) will stay home another weekend, this time for some homecoming action. Homecoming weekend will start Friday Oct. 8 and end Sunday Oct. 10 with soccer action, as Friday night the Beavers take on the Wolves of Northern State (4-3-1, 3-2-1 NSIC) set for 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The weekend concludes with a showdown with the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons (0-9, 0-6 NSIC) Sunday with kickoff set for noon.
Last Time out: The Beavers took the weekend sweep without allowing a single goal to open home conference action. They took a 1-0 win over the Winona State Warriors Friday afternoon thanks to the golden legs that got the golden goal by senior
Sofia Lewis, assisted by freshman
Lainey Sandberg. Junior
Maddie Kindred backstopped seven Warrior shots to complete the shutout, while the Beavers shot eight times with four of them reaching the goal. The Beavers handed the Upper Iowa Peacocks their third straight loss Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout. The Beavers got the lead in the sixth minute of the match thanks to Lewis' second goal of the weekend, assisted by freshman
Sofia Galvez. The Beavers took the 1-0 lead to end the half but struck again only five minutes into the second half to take the 2-0 lead thanks to junior
Chloe Allan, assisted again by Galvez. MSU put the game to bed thanks to Lewis' third goal of the weekend. Kindred stopped four shots in goal, while the Beavers struck a shot nine times during the game, with four reaching the net.
In this week's current United Soccer Coaches, the Minot State Beavers made an appearance in the Central regional rankings coming in at #7, which would mean that they would secure a place in the NCAA tournament if the playoffs were tomorrow.
Top Performer: It's hard to choose when you get two players who receive NSIC player of the week honors, so why not both?! Thanks to Lewis' three goals on the weekend, she easily won the NSIC offensive player of the week. Something so nice, Maddie had to do it twice. For the second time this season Kindred was named the NSIC goaltender of the week following her second double shutout weekend of the season. Kindred made 11 saves on the weekend and has not allowed a goal in 203:46 minutes of action.
Facing the Wolves: The Beavers have never lost to the Wolves, and currently own a 7-0-2 record against them. MSU is currently on a two-game winning streak against NSU. The last meeting turned out to be a 1-0 Beaver win on Sept. 22, 2019, at home.
Scouting Northern State: The Wolves are coming off a weekend split at home first defeating the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears 3-2 Friday night. They then fell 2-0 to the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks Sunday.
The Wolves have net 12 goals on the season, while creating 75 shots with 41 of them reaching the net. NSU is led by freshman forward
Megan Fastenau who currently has five goals on the season. Fastenau is also the current leader in shots for the Wolves with 18 while nine of them have reached the net. Senior midfielder
Lila Davidsdottir and freshman forward
Eva Larson have contributed two goals apiece to be next in line for scoring for the Wolves. NSU is backstopped by freshman
Alexus Townsend playing every minute of the season other than one half of a game for the Wolves. Townsend has allowed 11 goals while making 47 stops in net.
Facing the Dragons: MSU currently holds a 9-2-1 record over the Dragons since their first meeting back in 2010. The Beavers currently own a two-game winning streak right now over the Dragons. The last meeting resulted in a 1-0 win for the Beavers in Moorhead, Minn.
Scouting Minnesota State Moorhead: The Dragons, currently winless on the season, are coming off back-to-back losses first against the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks 1-0. They ended the weekend with a 4-0 loss to the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears.
The Dragons have struggled mightily on offense, only scoring one singular goal the entire season, other than their exhibition match. The lone goal for MSUM came back on Sept. 11 in a 4-1 loss to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets. However, the Dragons are average 6.9 shots per game, and have created 62 shots total on the season, with 34 of them reaching the net. Freshman forward
Ally Peters has scored the lone goal for the Dragons this season. Senior forward
Anna Steadland is the current leader in shots with 10 shots total including a six shot game against the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Steadland and freshman defenseman
Emma Caito are the current leaders on the Dragons with five shots on goal apiece. Senior goaltender
Kayleigh Sedlacek has been the leader in net for MSUM, allowing 14 goals, but making 41 saves.
Looking Ahead: The Minot State soccer team will take to the road again following a hopefully successful homecoming weekend. They'll head on the road in what won't be an easy test. They first travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. when they travel to the Augustana Vikings (4-3-2, 3-1-2 NSIC) Friday Oct. 15. They wrap up their quick road trip before heading back home with a road test at the Wayne State Wildcats (2-6-1, 2-4 NSIC).
