Another shutout for Beavers as Minot State tops Colorado 5-0 on Saturday

BOULDER, Colo. – The offense continued to improve, and the Beavers scored another shutout, as well, Saturday night in Colorado.

The Minot State women's hockey team remained unbeaten on the season with a second-straight shutout win over the University of Colorado, blanking the host Buffaloes 5-0 to wrap up their weekend series.

The Beavers (4-0-0 overall) conclude their three-game road-trip to Colorado by playing an early Sunday morning game at Colorado State before returning home to Maysa Arena to host Lindenwood University next Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17.

"The team checked another box getting a sweep on the road," Minot State coach Ryan Miner said. "We were very happy with the effort and dominance that we showed, only allowing 13 shots in two games. We cleaned up our second-chance efforts in front of the net and were rewarded for it."

After dominating in a 3-0 win Friday night, the Beavers were even more in control Saturday as goalie Haylie Biever needed to make only four saves for the shutout win, her first of the season. All four saves came in the third period.

As for Minot State's offense, all five goals came from five different players over the first 40 minutes of the contest, with Gillian Gervin netting what proved to be the game-winner with just 1 minute, 48 seconds gone off assists from Maiya Aschberg and Paige Ackerman.

Alisha O'Hara made it 2-0 with a goal 7:06 into the action off assists from Haley Wickham and Mia Mckee, then Ensley Fendelet put the Beavers on top 3-0 with 7:34 left in the first period. Story Navrot and Aspen Cooper assisted on the third goal.

That comfortable lead held up until late in the second period when McKee and Wickham each scored a goal of their own a total of 38 seconds apart for the commanding 5-0 advantage.

Anna German and Wickham assisted on Mckee's goal, and Navrot and Mckee set up Wickham's goal.

The Beavers finished with a 37-4 edge in shots in Saturday's win, and an 87-13 total advantage for the weekend series.
