MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team came alive in the second period, blowing a close contest wide open as the Beavers skated to an 8-0 win over visiting Minnesota on Saturday at the Maysa Arena in Women's Midwest College Hockey action.
"Very happy with the entire team's performance tonight," Beavers' head coach
Ryan Miner said. "We had a slow start but found our rhythm in the second period and then rolled with it. Every line contributed offensively and we were able to keep them off the scoresheet, which is a testament to our defense and goaltending.
"We need to bring the same second- and third-period energy into tomorrow's game!"
The two teams meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Maysa Arena to wrap up their weekend series.
Lauren Blight ended up netting what proved to be the game-winner with 6 minutes, 45 seconds gone in the first period, finishing off an assist from
Mackenzie Heide.
It stayed a 1-0 contest until early in the second period when the Beavers (8-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 WMCH) broke the game open scoring twice in 27 seconds.
Haley Wickham made it a 2-0 game with 2:11 gone from the clock, then 27 ticks later Gilliam Gervin scored for a 3-0 lead that opened the offensive floodgates.

Jessica Walker each added a second-period goal, then
Maiya Aschberg and Walker each scored in the third for the final 8-0 margin.

Aspen Cooper each added an assist in the win for Minot State, which outshot Minnesota (2-1-0, 0-1-0) 48-6 in the contest.
Jordan Ivanco stopped all six shots she faced to record her second shutout of the season in goal.
