MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team picked up right where it left off Saturday evening.
Coming off two dominating periods on the ice to finish up a win over visiting Minnesota on Saturday, the Beavers started Sunday strong as
Riley Ball scored 5 minutes, 14 seconds into the first period, igniting an offensive explosion of four first-period goals in a 9-1 Minot State win Sunday over Minnesota.
Hannah Gray assisted on the opening goal for 5
th-ranked Minot State (9-2-0 overall, 4-1-0 WMCH), which now hits the road for four games in Michigan next weekend, playing Thursday and Friday at No. 2-ranked Adrian, then at Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday and Sunday.
Mia McKee made it a 2-0 game just 3:59 later, finishing off assists by
Story Navrot and
Aspen Cooper, a goal that proved to be the game winner.
Late in the first period,
Mackenzie Heide and
Paige Ackerman each scored just 1:57 apart for a commanding 4-0 lead. Omalley Eslinger assisted on Heide's goal, and
Makena Welby and
Maiya Aschberg assisted on the goal by Ackerman.
From there, Minot State kept tacking on goal after goal as Ball scored her second, off a
Jessica Walker assist in the second period,
Makena Welby scored off another Walker assist for a 6-0 lead, then Walker put one in the net herself off a Wickham assist for a 7-0 lead through two periods.
Krissy Rink and Eslinger capped the scoring each with a third-period goal for the Beavers, with Mckee and Gray assisting on Rink's goal, and Gray assisting on Eslinger's goal.

Haylie Biever benefited from all the offense on Sunday earning the win as she made 14 saves on 15 shots.
