Minot State rallies late, but falls to Truman State 77-69

MARSHALL, Minn. --The Minot State women's basketball team went into halftime tied 34-34 with Truman State, but could not pull away in the second half and fell 77-69 to the Bulldogs Friday afternoon.

The Beavers (2-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Amber Stevahn, who had 16 points and seven rebounds. Kate Head added 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals and Natasha Elliott helped out with 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Minot State distributed the ball well in Friday's game, racking up 19 assists on 29 made field goals. Head's six assists paced the Beavers and Emma Mogen added four assists of her own.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 9-7 advantage, the Beavers went on a 5-0 run with 4:59 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Lucy Chapman, to extend the lead to 14-7. Minot State gave back some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 20-14 advantage. Minot State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 20 points close to the basket.

Truman State rallied to take a 28-27 lead before Minot State went on a 7-0 run starting at the 3:31 mark in the second period. The run was highlighted by a bucket from Stevahn, to take a 34-28 lead. The Bulldogs then battled back to even it up at 34-34 heading into halftime. Minot State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 14 points.

After halftime, Truman State snatched a 38-36 lead before Minot State answered back by going on a 7-0 run to grab a 43-38 lead with 7:49 to go in the third. Truman State responded to capture a 57-55 lead entering the fourth quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 21 points in the paint.

Minot State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 77-69.
