Undefeated Beavers take game one against University of Illinois

MINOT, ND ‒ It only took three minutes and twenty-nine seconds for the Beavers to take the lead over the Fighting Illini, a lead which they held onto that turned into a 5-0 victory over UI.

Landyn Cochrane came out the gates swinging and set the tone for Friday night's competition, scoring the first goal of the night unassisted with sixteen minutes remaining in the period. No other Beavers were able to sneak a shot through the UI net as the first period came to a close, heading into the locker rooms with a 1-0 lead.

It was a Josh Pederson shot assisted by Davis Sheldon just over five minutes into the second regulation period that sparked the scoring streak for Minot State. Shortly after, Connor Navrot was able to steal the puck from the Fighting Illini's defense and make a bee-line down the ice with no defenders in his way, scoring unassisted into the UI net. With under a minute and a half remaining in the second period, Davis Sheldon and Landyn Cochrane were able to get the puck to Jordan Robertson who scored the fourth goal on the night, putting the Beavers on top of the Illinois 4-0.

Coming into the last regulation period, the fire was still ignited from the scoring streak in the previous period. A Davis Sheldon goal found its way past the UI goalkeeper after an assist by Josh Pederson. The Beavers protected the zero on the scoreboard with tight defense throughout and a remarkable performance yet again by Jake Anthony, who had 19 saves on the night and played all sixty minutes on the ice.

Leading the ACHA Division I as the number one ranked team in the nation, the undefeated Beavers improved their record to 6-0-0 after game one of their two-game series against the Fighting Illini. Game two's puck drops at 8:00p.m. in the Maysa Arena on Saturday, Nov 6th.
