Stevahn scores 25 points as the Beavers take down the Golden Bears

BILLINGS, MT --Amber Stevahn totaled 25 points to help the Minot State women's basketball team over the Kutztown (PA) Golden Bears 72-67 at Alterowitz Gymnasium Saturday.

Stevahn added three assists to her 25 point game to lead the Beavers to victory. Kate Head helped out with 17 points and two steals and Emma Mogen chipped in with three points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Minot State embraced a team mentality in Saturday's game, racking up 15 assists on 26 made field goals. Mogen's five assists paced the Beavers.

Minot State forced 17 Kutztown (PA) turnovers. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Head and Mogen led the way with two steals each for Minot State.

How It Happened

After jumping out to an 11-9 advantage, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 2:48 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Stevahn, to increase its lead to 19-9. The Beavers entered the quarter break with a 22-13 advantage. Minot State capitalized on six Kutztown (PA) turnovers in the period, turning them into six points on the other end of the floor.

Minot State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 1:09 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 37-27, a score that would hold until halftime. The Beavers dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 15 points close to the basket.

Minot State continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Natasha Elliott, to expand its lead to 55-49 to end the third quarter. Minot State took advantage of four Kutztown (PA) turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Kutztown (PA) proceeded to take a 65-64 lead before Minot State went on a 6-0 run to seize a 70-65 lead with 14 seconds to go in the contest. The Beavers held their lead for the rest of the game for the 72-67 win. Minot State pulled down five offensive rebounds to score four second chance points in the period.
