MANDAN, N.D. - The Minot State men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of in-state rival the University of Mary Saturday night on the road.
The Beavers' 4-1 victory over the instate rival didn't begin to pick up action until the second period, with neither teams scoring in the first.
Halfway into the second period with a standing score of 0-0,
Reece Henry and
Jared Hamm worked to set
Reid Arnold up for the first goal of the night, making the score now 1-0 at 10:18 in the second. A UMary penalty called for goalie interference put the Beavers on the power play at 16:09.
Wayde Johannesson and
Brayden Pawluk were able to take advantage of the 5-on-4 play and earned another goal for MSU, giving the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
Davis Sheldon and
Reece Henry scored goals in third period along with
Drew Carter,
Wayde Johannesson, and
Jared Hamm each earning an assist apiece. Sitting at a 4-0 lead with just over six minutes left in the game, MSU felt no pressure from the Marauders until UMary's Tanner Eskro was able to sneak one by Beaver goalie
Jake Anthony at 16:59.
The Beavers (14-1-0 overall) finished their business trip to Mandan with a 4-1 defeat and a now 4-0-0 record for games no the road so far this season. Minot State will host Dakota College at Bottineau this upcoming Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Maysa Arena.
