Max Cody,
Kody Dwyer and
Melvin Newbern combined to score 54 of Minot State's 71 total points as the Beavers knocked off the UMary Marauders 71-65 on the road Saturday.

Cody led the Beavers (8-6, 6-4) with 24 points, six rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Dwyer tacked on 16 points and Newbern helped out a with double-double consisting of 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Dwyer pulled down three offensive boards to lead the Minot State offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 13 second chance points.

Minot State's defense held Mary to only 37.1 percent shooting from the field, including 21.9 percent from beyond the arc.

How It Happened
After falling behind 7-6, Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 15:11 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Cody, to take a 12-7 lead. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 33-29 advantage. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 33 points close to the basket.

The Beavers coasted to the win from there, increasing their margin of victory by outscoring the Marauders 38-36 in the second half. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 38 points in the lane.
