MINOT, N.D. -- Minot State University softball dominated behind a complete-game shutout from
Trinity Valentine. The Beavers scored just enough offensively to defeat Northern State 2-0 on Saturday in the Air-Supported Dome Invitational.
MSU Softball improves to 6-1 on the season and has won five in a row with the two-run victory. Northern State falls to 1-1 overall with both results coming on Saturday at Minot State University.
Trinity Valentine's complete-game shutout and eight strikeouts along with
Jamie Odlum and
Lauryn DeGuzman driving in the two runs led the Beavers to a win.
The Beavers did not get on the board until the bottom of the fourth.
Julia Suchan reached on an infield single and later scored on a 3-1 count single to left field by DeGuzman pushing the home side in front by one run.
MSU added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth when Odlum doubled on a 1-0 pitch to left field scoring pinch-runner
Tesia Hrom. Hrom ran for
Alina Gonzalez after she led off the inning with a single to left.
From there it was all Valentine (W, 3-1) as she limited the Wolves to just six hits, two walks, and struck out eight to earn her third win of the season and second straight victory. Valentine tossed 113 total pitches in the effort.
The one through five spots in the order each recorded one hit for Minot State. DeGuzman and Odlum were responsible for driving in the two runs.
Lenora Watson stole one base and Odlum recorded the only double for the home team.
The Beavers are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 21 against Bemidji State in the final game of the Air-Supported Dome Invitational at 1 p.m.
