SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minot State baseball team split a road doubleheader with the Augustana Vikings today. Augustana was dominant in the first installment of the day as starter Tanner Brown commanded the Vikings to a perfect game win.
MSU bounced back in the second game with an impressive offensive performance propelled by clutch hits.
GAME 1 | No. 19 Augustana (SD) 4, Minot State 0
Minot State ran into a buzzsaw on the mound Saturday as junior Tanner Brown threw a perfect game for Augustana (SD), leading the No. 19 Vikings over the Beavers 4-0.
Junior
RJ Martinez (2-1) got the ball to start for Minot State (6-4, 4-1) and took the loss. Freshman
Cameron Bagshaw was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing one hit.
Offensively, the Beavers were led by junior
Zach Newman, who went 0-for-0 on the day.

Minot State fought back from down 5-4 in the seventh inning to defeat No. 19 Augustana 8-5 in the second game of the day.
Junior
Jordan Chappell (2-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (7-4, 5-1). The right-hander went 2.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks, and striking out two. Senior
Aaron Kern also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing two shutout innings while allowing one hit, with one walk and four strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by senior
Ryley Humrighouse, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Junior
Drew Behling put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Junior
Declan Buckle also contributed for Minot State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Behling put Minot State on the board with a one-out solo home run off Ryan Jares.
The Beavers lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 3-1. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run was driven in by Buckle's single, which brought the score level at 3-3.
Augustana (SD) broke that tie and grabbed a 4-3 lead moving into the sixth when Minot State tied the game at four.
The Vikings broke up the tie and took the lead heading into the eighth inning when Minot State got back on the scoreboard. The inning resulted in three runs for the Beavers, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Humrighouse to left, bringing the Minot State advantage to 7-5.
The Beavers kept Augustana (SD) off the board before building on their lead to 8-5 the following inning. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Buckle. The score remained 8-5 for the rest of the game, as the Beavers held on for the win.
