MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State University softball team came into today's action riding a two-game winning streak and looking to take down third place in the conference Minnesota Duluth during a crucial doubleheader at South Hill Complex but the Beavers fell by close finals of 5-1 and 1-0 at the end of today's action.
GAME 1 | Minnesota-Duluth 5, Minot State 1
The Minot State Beavers struggled on Saturday, falling to the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs by a final score of 5-1.
Junior Trinity Valentine (L, 7-5) got the ball to start for Minot State (12-11, 5-4) and took the loss.
Sophomore Lauryn DeGuzman led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple. Sophomore Jamie Odlum provided a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. DeGuzman came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Minnesota-Duluth added two runs to their tally on the way to a 5-1 final.

GAME 2 | Minnesota-Duluth 1, Minot State 0
The Minot State Beavers were not able to notch a run against Minnesota-Duluth pitcher freshman Lauren Dixon on Saturday and were shut out 1-0 by the Bulldogs.
Freshman Gabi Dawyduk (2-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (12-12, 5-5). Trinity Valentine was solid out of the bullpen, going 2.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out three. Zoya Robbins also tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in relief as the bullpen held the Bulldogs scoreless over 5.0 innings after an early run against Dawyduk.
At the plate, the Beavers were paced by sophomore Jazmin Karunungan, who went 1-for-3 on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-1 with runners in scoring position. The Beavers last got a runner on third in the seventh, when senior Julia Suchan made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
