Clutch Moments from Minot State and CSP Lead to a Mid-Week Split

GAME 1 | Minot State 5, Concordia-Saint Paul 3

Minot, N.D. --Minot State broke through after a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning to beat Concordia-Saint Paul 5-3 Wednesday.

Junior Jordan Chappell (3-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (10-5, ). The right-hander went two shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out four. Junior RJ Martinez also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, starting the ballgame and throwing three innings, giving up one run on five hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Junior Jordan Williams led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore Jake Collins furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Kellen Peat also contributed, going 2-for-3 for Minot State with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State's offense produced a three-run output that included home runs from both Collins and Williams.

The game remained tied until the very next inning when the Beavers got going again on offense. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run was driven in by junior Declan Buckle's single, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Beavers. The score remained 5-3 for the rest of the game, as Minot State held on for the win.

Minot State fell 16-10 in a 10-inning matchup to Concordia-Saint Paul Wednesday.

Junior Zach Newman (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State (10-6, ). Freshman Craig Schmich was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.

Junior Jordan Williams led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a home run and four RBIs. Sophomore Jake Collins furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Junior Declan Buckle also chipped in, going 3-for-4 for Minot State with two doubles and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minot State scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Ryley Humrighouse's single.

The score stayed at 2-2 until the very next inning when the Beavers put runs on the scoreboard once again. Minot State scored twice on Williams' two-run homer, which brought the Beavers lead to 4-2.

Minot State's lead had evaporated once the fourth inning arrived and turned into a 7-4 Concordia-Saint Paul advantage when the Beavers cut that deficit to 7-6. The Beavers scored twice, with one run coming across on Williams' single.

The Golden Bears expanded their lead to 15-6 before the Minot State offense got back in action, digging into that lead in the eighth. The Beavers scored two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Buckle, bringing the score to 15-8 in favor of Concordia-Saint Paul.

Concordia-Saint Paul built on their lead to 16-8 before the Beavers offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 16-10 in the ninth. Minot State scored twice on Collins' two-run homer. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
