Beavers drop 3-1 match to William Jewell

TOPEKA, Kan. --The Minot State volleyball team lost Saturday as the William Jewell Cardinals posted a 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 21-25, 14-25) win at the Washburn Invitational presented by Hotel Topeka at City Center.at the Lee Arena.

The non-conference loss dropped Minot State to 0-4 on the season.

Alexandra Koontz finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Beavers attack. Minot State got six digs from Sophia Peterson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Beavers found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-18. Minot State trailed by as many as seven points as William Jewell grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up 10 times before the Cardinals took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | Minot State responded to pick up a 25-23 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Beavers took the lead for good at 24-23 in a set that featured 11 ties and eight lead changes. The Minot State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Minot State lost set three, putting the Beavers in a 2-1 hole. The Beavers lost the set 25-21 despite a solid performance on the attacking side. Minot State put together a .480 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set loss.

SET 4 | Minot State then fell in the fourth set 25-14 to finish off the match. The Beavers trailed by as many as 11 points as William Jewell grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 and Minot State wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up just once before the Cardinals took over.
