O'FALLON, Ill. - The Beavers didn't need to wait for overtime this time around.
The sixth-ranked Minot State women's hockey team scored their second win in a row over a top-five ranked team, dominating throughout in a 5-0 win on the road over fifth-ranked McKendree on Tuesday afternoon.
The two teams meet again for the second game of their two-game series on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Illinois.
The visiting Beavers (16-4-0 overall, 8-2-0 WMCH) took control early on as
Ensley Fendelet scored her first of two goals just 9 minutes, 47 seconds into the action.
Paige Ackerman and
Alisha O'Hara assisted on what proved to be the game-winner.
Minot State wasted little time stretching its one-goal lead, though, as
Mia Mckee score off a
Megan Norris assist 3:48 later for a 2-0 lead, then with 16 seconds left before the intermission,
Sydney Spicer netted another for the visitors as the Beavers took a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Fendelet added her second of the game in the second period, off assists from
Jenae Cockerill and Ackerman, then Mckee set up Norris for the final goal of the game with 7:30 gone in the second period.
Plenty of offense for the Beavers who never let the host Bearcats rally as Minot State outshot McKendree 55-20 on the afternoon.
Jordan Ivanco stopped all 20 shots she faced for her third shutout of the season - including a save on a penalty shot with 3:12 left to play - for the Beavers, who two nights earlier scored a 4-3 overtime win at No. 4-ranked Lindenwood in the second game of their current six-game, eight-day road trip.
The Beavers play at McKendree again on Wednesday, then finished their current road trip playing at No. 9-ranked Maryville on Friday and Saturday.
