ST. LOUIS, Mo. – That's four-in-a-row, and all against Top 10 foes.
The Minot State women's hockey team continued its strong run on the road Friday afternoon, this time besting No. 9-ranked Maryville as the fifth-ranked Beavers scored a 3-1 win.
The victory was the fourth straight for Minot State (18-4-0 overall, 10-2-0 WMCH) during its current six-game, eight-day road trip which concludes Saturday with the Beavers playing the Saints once again at 12:30 p.m. in St. Louis. The Beavers started their current win streak with a 4-3 overtime win on Sunday at then-No. 4 Lindenwood, then Minot State won a pair of games – 5-0 and 4-1 – at McKendree, which started the week No. 5 in the ACHA and now is ranked No. 6.
Denali Sigurdson and
Sydney Spicer led the way offensively for the Beavers on Friday as each scored a goal and added an assist in the victory, while
Jordan Ivanco made 20 saves in goal in the win.
Scoreless through the first half of the game,
Riley Ball finally broke the tie and put Minot State on top with a goal off an assist from
Aspen Cooper with 10 minutes, 12 seconds left in the second period.
Once on the board, the Beavers didn't wait long to stretch their advantage as Sigurdson score 3:04 later off a Spicer assist with what proved to be the game-winner.
On top 2-0 heading into the third period, Minot State padded its lead when Spicer scored off a Sigurdson assist just 1:48 into the final session, providing more than enough for the Beavers, who controlled play and outshot the host Saints 41-21 on the afternoon.
Minot State nearly blanked Maryville, but the hosts spoiled the shutout with 2:38 left to play.
